About Mackenzie Phillips:
Mackenzie
Phillips was born in Alexandria, Virginia on November 10, 1959. She is a mother, actress, musician and writer of the bestselling
memoir "High on Arrival."
Mackenzie is the daughter of musician and songwriter John Phillips and his first wife, Susan Adams. When Mackenzie was 12, she formed a band with some of her classmates from school in California and was spotted by a casting agent during one of their performances. Soon after, Hollywood and the world
took notice after her
star-making turn in the film American Graffiti and the hit
television sitcom One Day at a Time as the rebellious Julie
Cooper Horvath. Early on, Mackenzie could be seen in many other roles,
including the ABC television movie Go Ask Alice, 14-year-old Eleanor
Roosevelt in the ABC miniseries Eleanor and Franklin and silent
screen
legend Lillian Gish in the NBC TV film Moviola: The Silent
Lovers.
She toured, wrote songs, and sang with her father John Phillips and the band The
New Mamas and the Papas. Mackenzie has appeared on many hit TV
shows, including The Love Boat, Beverly Hills 90210, Melrose
Place, Guiding Light, Chicago Hope, The Outer Limits,
Crossing Jordan, ER, The Division, Without a Trace, NYPD
Blue, 7th Heaven and Cold Case. She
is known for her role as Molly Phillips, the star and
singer in the Disney Channel series So Weird, and her role as
Rizzo in the Broadway production of Grease and Lily St. Regis in a national tour of Annie. Recently she was a celebrity patient on Celebrity
Rehab 3 with Dr. Drew on VH1.
In her bestselling memoir, High on Arrival,
Mackenzie's astounding, outrageous, and
often tender life story unfolds, and she shares her
lifelong battle with personal demons and near-fatal addictions. She
overcomes seemingly impossible obstacles again and again and journeys
toward redemption and peace. By exposing the shadows and secrets of the
past to the light of day, the star who turned up High on Arrival
has finally come back down to earth -- to stay. With her honesty and candor, she has become a brave voice for victims of sexual abuse and for those recovering from addiction and substance abuse, as well as an advocate for the humane and ethical treatment of animals and the adoption of rescue pets.
Mackenzie's true life story and the outstanding success
of her book High on Arrival has led
to guest appearances on The
Oprah Winfrey Show, Larry King Live, Good Morning America, The View, The
Joy Behar Show and
many other television shows. High on Arrival premiered in the
top 3 of the New York Times Bestseller list and is a national bestseller.
